Bengali Actor Tamal Roy Choudhury Passes Away At 80 After Cardiac Arrest In Kolkata (X)
Kolkata: Veteran Bengali actor Tamal Roy Choudhury has passed away at the age of 80 on Monday after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest in his sleep at his south Kolkata home, according to family members.
Tamal Roy Choudhury was a veteran Bengali film and television actor, who in his career has worked with several renowned filmmakers and actors.
The veteran actor has featured in popular Bengali movies like 'Challenge', 'Le Halua Le', 'Bindass', 'Amazon Obhijaan', and 'Chander Pahar' and has also worked in arthouse films such as 'Jatiswar' and 'Gorosthane Sabdhan'.
Tamal has also worked in 'The Namesake', which is a 2006 English-language drama film, directed by Mira Nair, where he played the role of Irrfan Khan's father.
The actor passed away on the same day, which coincidentally marks 19 years of its release in the United States.
According to media reports and family sources, Tamal passed away on Monday at his Kolkata home peacefully during the night.
After the news of Tamal Roy Choudhury’s death, many Bengali film and television industry actors and fans were shocked.
Actor-politician Debdut Ghosh mourned the demise of Tamal Roy Choudhury and said that the actor had a way of easing even tense moments with his witty remarks.
Recalling his film days, Ghosh said, "He was a wonderful and warm person who loved long conversations without worrying about the time. He was extremely affectionate towards juniors and would step forward to help whenever someone faced difficulties during work."
